Usain Bolt and Jamaica have won a third gold medal in a new world record time of 36.85 seconds in an astonishing run in the 4x100M final at the London 2012 Olympics. Millions watched live, and others through online video stream as history was made by the Jamaican sprinters.

It is the first time any team has broken the 37 second barrier in the 4x100 meters and the Jamaican team have certainly lived up to expectations. Their quartet consisted of the two fastest men in the world, Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, who both previously won the gold and silver medals in the 100M sprint.

Bolt has already made history at these London Games by becoming the first person to successfully defend his 200M Olympic title. Prior to that he also retained his 100M crown running a new Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds - the second fastest time in history.

Now he has claimed his third Olympic gold of these games, having already claimed three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics four years ago.

Team USA pushed the Jamaican sprint team all the way and at the last baton handover they were just behind the Jamaican side. However, it was Usain Bolt who was running the final leg for Jamaica, and as soon as the baton was passed successfully his power was there was all to see. He immediately pulled out to create space between himself and his American rival and once he got away there was no catching him.

He burst through the live setting a world record of 36.85 seconds to send the 80,000 fans in the stadium into raptures.

Canada came in third and celebrated as if they had won themselves. However, as the dust settled on the historic win for Jamaica is appeared as though the Canadian side had been disqualified. It was not immediately clear their infringement but the news saw the Canadian quartet fall to the floor in despair.

But this day belonged to Jamaica and to those who witnessed the amazing historic relay time from Usain Bolt and his team.
