Austin Mahone claims a recent report about his breakup is "ridiculous."
After Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello confirmed the pair had split, a source claimed to Hollywood Life that the breakup happened after Mahone became concerned Cabello was using the relationship to sell albums.
"That's the most ridiculous reason I've ever heard... Nothing like that even happened at all," Mahone wrote. "Idk what source u guys talking 2?"
After being friends for a reported year and a half, Mahone and Cabello began dating over the summer. At the time, they were on tour together, but luckily, their tour has since wrapped, which will surely make the split easier to get through.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live earlier this month, Cabello, who was on the show with her band mates, confirmed she and Mahone were an item. Days later, she confirmed they split. Because the breakup came so soon after Cabello's relationship reveal, many suspected Mahone wasn't happy she had gone public with their romance.
“There was some trouble in the relationship brewing and as a last-ditch effort, Camilla made it official. That was one of the biggest stumbling blocks: She wanted to tell people and he wanted to keep it low key,” a source told Hollywood Life. “When she revealed that they were dating, he accused her of using it to sell albums and she was hurt by that and they both decided to break up.”
According to a People Magazine report, Mahone and Cabello were first linked romantically in late 2013.
"Austin caught Camila's eye when they were both in New York for the MTV VMAs [in August]," a friend of Mahone told the magazine. "They met the day before at the Arthur Ashe Kids Day and have been in touch ever since."
