With the DC universe taking shape, it seems like a lot of notable villains and heroes will be finally hitting the big screen. But could one famous comedic actor take on a role he was up for early on in his career?

Guillermo Del Toro Has Finished A Script For These DC Anti-Heroes, But When Will We See The Movie?

Comic Book Movie spoke with Rolf Mohr about Superman Lives, the film that Tim Burton almost directed with Nicholas Cage playing the titular hero. The rest of the cast would've been Courtney Cox as Lois Lane, Chris Rock as Jimmy Olsen and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

As for who would play Brainiac in the film, Mohr said that two big name actors were being considered for the part: Gary Oldman and Jim Carrey.

Jude Law Among Actors Being Eyed To Play Braniac In 'Justice League'

"At the time I had no idea who had written it or that Tim Burton was on board to direct, but they told me Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman were being considered for Brainiac," he said.

"It was interesting to read the script years later and see that Kevin Smith had actually done a pretty impressive job by introducing the Eradicator as a transforming suit in order to weave together all the requirements the producer wanted: 'No Superman suit, no flying... and a giant spider in the 3rd act.'"

Carrey would later go on to play a DC villain as he was cast in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever as The Riddler. But with Brainiac returning to play the villain in Justice League: Part 1, would Carrey consider the role again?

The actor has been scarce with his movie roles as of late and joined the superhero craze with Kick-Ass 2 (even though he does not like the final product). He may look to give the role another shot, but who knows if Carrey even needs superhero movies at this point in his career.
