The holiday season has finally arrived, and with the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, enchantment of decorations and festive displays, also comes the famous traditional New York landmark-the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

The 82nd annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center tree lighting event will be taking place once again, complete with plenty of live entertainment, festive spirit, and of course the official moment where this year's tree gets lit-up with thousands of gorgeous lights and announces the start of the holiday season in New York.

The tree lighting ceremony will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. Dec. 3 on NBC, and those who make the trip to New York to see it live will be able to witness its beauty until January 8-meaning New Yorkers and those from afar can truly take in the symbol of holiday spirit in New York for a full month.

Here are our seven reasons why we love the tree and what it means for the 2014 holiday season.

1. It officially ushers in the Christmas season in New York

The streets and office buildings throughout the city that haven't already decorated for the holidays quickly soon get into the spirit after the tree gets lit up in all of its glory.

2. The live entertainment at the ceremony is fantastic

The ceremony tends to have some of the top entertainment in the industry coming to the tree to ring in holiday cheer is pretty impressive. On slate for this year's ceremony include: Mariah Carey, Prince Royce, Darius Rucker, The Radio City Rockettes, Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett, Cyndi Lauper featuring Billy Porter, Seth MacFarlane featuring Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel, Pentatonix, LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood.

3. The hustle and bustle of the crowds

Yes, the sheer volume of tourists who flock to the tree each year makes things annoying for native New Yorkers, but part of the excitement of seeing the tree is knowing that people from all corners of the world flock to see it and take it in as well-and it's something that in a way, unites them.

4. The ice skating can be incredibly fun

There are numerous places to put on a pair of skates and glide on the ice in New York (including equally famous rinks at Central Park and Bryant Park), but getting to experience it under the tree? It's worth the long wait and crowds.

5. It's an absolutely romantic spot for couples

It's expensive to work with an official proposal package from Rockefeller Center itself-but it is incredibly romantic and several couples find themselves celebrating their relationships with an engagement at this very spot.

6. The tree is much bigger than any that can be in our own living rooms-and once it's lit, it's breathtaking and magical

While we may be able to decorate our own trees and make them beautiful as well, there is something else more special about this famous tree.

7. It's beautiful. Period. (GIF)

The tree's beauty is a fact that can never be questioned.
