When Jane (Simon Baker) runs into a military colonel in episode 5, his impressive powers of observation will lead him to conclude that the man is keeping a secret. After finding out that the colonel's wife was murdered, Jane will reopen a closed case.

Unfortunately for Jane, the colonel's power makes him neigh untouchable. Luckily for the FBI, Jane doesn't usually let matters of rank stand in his way.

'The Mentalist' Finale To Be Tragic? Bruno Heller Teases 'Hope' At End Of Series

Titled "The Silver Briefcase," the episode was penned by Jordan Harper ("The Graybar Hotel," "Violets") and directed by Baker. As the CBS drama comes to a close, "The Silver Briefcase" will mark Baker's fifth time at the helm of The Mentalist. His previous credits include "Red Moon," "Blinking Red Light," "Red Sails in the Sunset," and "My Blue Heaven."

Next time on The Mentalist, Jane will have to watch from afar as Lisbon (Robin Tunney) heads undercover at a woman's prison during "The Graybar Hotel." Click the video below to see a preview for the Dec. 7 episode.
