Although the pre-production for Transformers 5 is still in a state of limbo, there are strong rumors about the star cast, and in most recent developments, it is being suggested that Dwayne Johnson will be stepping in, in place of Mark Wahlberg.

What Spurred Michael Bay To Quit The Transformers Series?

A new report hinted that Johnson will be replacing Wahlberg, who has been rumored to be exiting the franchise. This has been spurred by the possibility of a crossover between Transformers 5 and G.I. Joe starring Dwayne Johnson, which broke out a few months ago.

Earlier this year, Cinema Blend revealed that a crossover could be a possibility. In an interview with Total Film, the producer of the franchise Lorenzo di Bonaventura, said that there was potential in that concept. But Bonaventura went on to speak of how it was not a realistic proposition, at least not in the near future.

The sequel to Age of Extinction will be crossed over with G.I. Joe. As it is being suggested that Wahlberg will probably be leaving, following Michael Bay's lead, and new stars Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz didn't make a great first impression, will also be dropped.

Other reports hinted at Megan Fox and Shia LeBeouf returning with the next instalment. Nothing is known for certain about the pre-production of the movie.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
