Despite being together for several years, actress Kate Hudson and Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy have officially called it quits on their relationship and engagement.

Hudson's rep confirmed the news to People, saying the two had actually been broken up for a while now, but were still remaining good friends and were still co-parenting their son together.

"Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now," the rep said. "Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents."

The couple, who became engaged in April 2011 and welcomed their son together, Bingham Hawn Bellamy in July of that year, never made official plans to marry, something Hudson previously spoke about by crediting the relationship between her parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell-who have never married-as an example for not doing something because it's expected, but rather because it's wanted by both parties.

"My parents aren't married," Hudson previously said. "And one of the reasons why they never got married is because they had been married before and they liked it the way it was. They didn't feel like they needed a piece of paper to be committed. So for me, I know that marriage is not a golden ticket."

Hudson was previously married to the father of her older son, Ryder, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, from 2000-2006. Before Bellamy, she also dated baseball player Alex Rodriguez and actor Owen Wilson.

Despite the split first going public now however, Hudson has allegedly already begun to move on with Dancing with the Stars pro Derek Hough. Perez Hilton reports the two were spotted enjoying a meal together at the Nice Guy Restaurant in Los Angeles over the weekend, sparking rumors the two are quietly seeing one another.
