Alexander has seen her role gradually expand since her inclusion in the first movie as she has also appeared in an episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and in a post-credit tease that helped to set-up Guardians of the Galaxy. But now, with Natalie Portman possibly done as Thor's girlfriend, she could find a larger role than ever before.
The destruction of Asgard is one the way as the title, Ragnarok, has teased that Thor will return home to find a lot of problems facing his home. With Loki posing as Odin on the throne, the fact that Thanos will want the Infinity Gauntlet and stones in the Asgard safe, and the threat of more villains like Surtur on the horizon, Lady Sif could play a large role in the next movie.
She also has the flexibility to turn up in other Marvel properties as she has shown before so she could work as a possible bridge between the Thor franchise and some other series that will take place in space such as Guardians of the Galaxy or Inhumans.
