On Friday McAdams was seen sporting the new look at LAX. According to E! on Monday, the actress's new hairstyle is short and wavy, with brown from the roots fading into blonde at the ends.

While 2014 has certainly been the year of the bob, the star's sudden makeover paired with the recent start of production for the HBO crime drama could mean that the look has something to do with her role.

Vince Vaughn Films Dramatic Scene For 'True Detective' Season 2

McAdams will star as Ani Bezzerides on the series, a detective who becomes involved in the case of a murdered city manager in California. The last to join the cast, it's possible McAdams has gotten a later start on production than her costars.

As the only female lead this season, there was a lot of competition for the role of Ani before it went to McAdams, with actresses like Jessica Chastain (The Help, Mama) and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss rumored to be in the running before the final decision was made.

McAdams will be working alongside some other big-name actors for the HBO crime drama, including Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh).

True Detective returns on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
