While show runner Mark Gatiss is very selective when it comes to spoilers for upcoming episodes of BBC's Sherlock, he did tease one potential storyline with Watson (Martin Freeman) and Mary (Amanda Abbington).

Gatiss recently spoke with India Today about the upcoming fourth season of Sherlock and revealed why he chooses not to divulge any notable plot points.

"It's a perennial problem that people ask about upcoming story lines. We're never going to reveal anything, so please don't waste your questions!" he told the publication. "Fans always think they want to know what is going to happen, but it would always end up being a bit of a disappointment later. I've invented a word for it - antici-pointment - looking forward to something so much and then being depressed that they now know it."

He added that some years ago, he received a Doctor Who spoiler that he found exciting but then became disappointed that he would not be able to view the actual episode unspoiled.

When the publication pressed for info on Watson and Mary's baby, Gatiss did admit that fans might be seeing it in the near to distant future.

"We know that Mary is expecting a baby at the end of season three, and we will see the child - maybe at some point in the future, depending on where we pick up from," Gatiss revealed.

Sherlock is slated to return for a one-off holiday special at the end of 2015. It will then return for the three-episode fourth season in early 2016.
