Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is taking the lead on Inhumans, and the series will be tasked with laying the groundwork for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Usually, such giant story leaps are taken on by one of the studio's tent poles, but the ABC is making waves with their new Quake (Chloe Bennet) storyline. Unfortunately, viewers will have to hang on for the ride as Marvel builds up to 2018 film.

"We can't really comment on what exactly they want to do or will do. It's more of the idea that this is a large concept that we get to introduce," Jed Whedon, executive producer, teased, according to Entertainment Weekly. "It's the first time that we're introducing something into the MCU first. So, we're thrilled about that."

Whedon's fellow EP, Maurissa Tancharoen, commented on the future by echoing one of Marvel's favorite lines - "everything is connected." However, to make the interwoven tapestry of the MCU, Agents of SHIELD writers did have to take a few creative licenses, such as altering Quake/Daisy Johnson's backstory.

"We've created a different origin for her, partially because we want to introduce this new other world that we get another glimpse of at the very end of 'What They Become,'" Whedon explained. "We merged those two ideas together also because there are such rabid fans out there that if we stick to original story points from the comics, they will smell story points from miles away."
