Jay Wilds Talks 'Serial' Podcast & Hae Min Lee Murder Case

On Tuesday, The Intercept published its second part of a multipart interview with Wilds.

In the second part, Wilds revealed how Sarah Koenig and her associate approached him and what transpired after it.

'Serial' Creator & Host Sarah Koenig Reveals All She Wanted To Do Was Report

Wilds shared that early in the summer he began to receive calls from people in Baltimore that told him a reporter was asking about him and the case. He also revealed a friend messaged him on Facebook to share Koenig was asking about Adnan Syed.

"But it didn't stick with me, and I didn't look into it much further. But earlier this year I had to go back East and was back in Baltimore, because my grandmother died. When I was there I heard from a few people that [Koenig] was harassing people at their jobs, making countless phone calls [to people] who kept saying they did not want to speak with her," he shared.

He further shared that Koenig and her associate, Serial executive producer Julie Snyder, showed up at his home in either late August or early September. Wilds stated he did invite Koenig in and asked her questions.

"I told Sarah that the only one who deserves any type of closure from any of this is her mom. If [Hae's mother] had some unanswered questions, and she needs to know what happened here, then I'd say, 'I'll walk [you] through all that.' That's the only person I'm going through all that s--- for," he shared.

Wilds also dished that Koenig and Snyder made him "really uncomfortable" because of their body language and how the pitch kept changing from a radio show to a documentary.

"It was confusing," Wilds stated, adding, "By this time my wife was getting real upset. Our kids were crying. My wife knows about my involvement in this case. Because I eventually cooperated with the police and testified, I know that there are people back home who would consider me a snitch and would hurt me. So, for the most part, we've been really protective about our privacy."

Koenig even sent him an email the day after their meeting, in which she revealed she and Snyder "felt pretty terrible that we caused such upheaval."
