Serial has taken on a life of its own on the Internet and now Jay Wilds, who Sarah Koenig never referenced by full name during her 12-episode podcast, is speaking out.

'Serial' Podcast Creator Talks About Season 1 Case & Her Personal Feelings Toward It

On Monday, The Intercept released the first part of a multipart interview with Wilds, in which he discusses his relationship with Adnan Syed and how he wouldn't cooperate with the police initially, among other things.

Wilds never had a formal interview with Koenig, but now he's breaking his silence by publicly addressing the events that surrounded Hae Min Lee's death and the trial that sent Syed to prison for life.

Koenig's podcast series depicted Wilds' story as never quite adding up and he addressed that too during this interview.

"Well first of all, I wasn't openly willing to cooperate with the police," he revealed.

"They had to chase me around before they could corner me to talk to me, and there came a point where I was just sick of talking to them. And they wouldn't stop interviewing me or questioning me. I wasn't fully cooperating," he further shared.

He called himself "a jury" since he was dictating whether or not people needed to be involved.

"That's the best way I can account for the inconsistencies. Once the police made it clear that my drug dealing wasn't gonna affect the outcome of what was going on, I became a little bit more transparent," he shared.

Wilds also revealed he's not sure if Syed meant to kill Lee.

"I don't necessarily know if he meant to kill Hae before he did it or if it was a sudden moment thing, but looking at his life, from what I saw, he seemed to be far out of his realm when it came to Hae leaving him," he said.
