It's on to the next one for Aaliyah: Princess of R&B lead actress Alexandra Shipp as the first look of NWA's Straight Outta Compton biopic has been released just weeks after she received harsh criticism for her role as the late Rock The Boat singer.

Shipp is set to star in the new biopic as rapper Ice Cube's wife Kimberly Woodruff. Unlike the Aaliyah movie Shipp has stayed pretty quiet about the NWA biopic so far.

Still, while the Aaliyah film was met with lots of backlash, this one has not experienced anything close. Most likely because the people being portrayed in the film are still alive (with the exception of the late Eazy E).

Fans Reluctant To Watch Lifetime's 'Whitney' After 'Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B' Backlash

In fact, Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson, Jr. is set to star as his father. This is much different from the Aaliyah movie that the singer's family made it clear they did not support. This caused flocks of her fans to also criticize the movie.

Another contrast is that Straight Outta Compton will be on the big screen while Aaliyah: Princess of R&B debuted on Lifetime, another aspect that her family did not agree with.

Just hours before the Aaliyah biopic premiered on Nov. 15, it was clear that Shipp was fully aware of the criticism she would receive. She took to her Instagram to remind fans that she was just an actress living her dream.

Shipp also starred in the Drumline: A New Beat sequel in October.

Straight Outta Compton hits theaters Aug. 14, 2015. Check out the trailer below.
