FX's American Horror Story might be losing its two signature stars after the conclusion of Freak Show: Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson.

It has been known for months now that American Horror Story: Freak Show will be Lange's last season, but it's possible that Paulson might leave as well. With the news that Paulson will be playing prosecutor Marcia Clark in Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's new show American Crime Story, it is questionable if she will be able to star in American Horror Story's fifth season.

American Crime Story will apparently begin filming in early 2015, according to The Huffington Post, so it may still leave enough time for Paulson to do American Horror Story season 5 as well. The horror anthology series typically films in the summer through the fall so depending on when Crime Story finishes, she could very well do both.

If Paulson was not able to do both, however, it would be a huge loss for the show, since she and Lange have helped lead the show for several seasons now, along with Evan Peters. While many seasons of American Horror Story have shared essentially the same cast, this would be a departure for season 5.

However, it could also be a new start for the horror anthology franchise, operating as the second era of American Horror Story with a mostly newer cast.

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
