While she was not supposed to surrender until 10 a.m., Leonard arrived at her Montville Township mansion at around midnight, to avoid the media. She checked in at 3 a.m.

On the way to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, CT, Leonard revealed he tried to keep things positive to help prevent Teresa from having a breakdown during the nearly two-hour ride.

"I'm not trying to get them emotional. I try to keep it light with jokes and talk about things that are light. So it was light from the time I saw her until the time I left her. She was great. She was very strong. She said, 'I know I am going to get through this.'"

He added that she was in a very energetic mood. Shortly after she arrived, officials came into the pre-processing room to meet Teresa. They reassured her she would be able to call someone during the first day.

"Everybody was extremely respectful and courteous. It was very easy to ease her way into this because everything was positive. There was a lot of positive energy."

Teresa and Joe pleaded guilty to serious fraud charges earlier this year including bankruptcy and loan. They were sentenced back in October. Joe was given more than three years. He will begin his sentence was Teresa completes hers.
