Russell T. Davies brought the iconic Time Lord back to TV screens in 2005, but it appears the Davies era is over for good. With the tenth anniversary of Doctor Who's return just around the corner, the writer took a moment to explain why he has stayed out of the picture since Steven Moffat took over the series in season 5.

"The lovely Steven [Moffat] invites me every year to come and write [an episode]," Davies told the Radio Times. "And I love him and I love them and I love watching it, but here I am, moving on. I love Doctor Who with all my heart but nothing is more important to me than my own stuff."

Since leaving the BBC series, Davis has created Wizards vs. Aliens and penned episodes for Jack's Boat, Cucumber, and Banana. After all the work he put into the Doctor Who universe, Davies isn't currently thinking up new ideas for the time traveler.

"I made 60 episodes [of Doctor Who] and did 40 Torchwoods and 40 Sarah Janes and there are an awful lot of ways to destroy the world in there," Davies joked to Radio Times.
