American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson recently discussed which of her two characters, Dot or Bette, she is more drawn towards.

Paulson plays both Dot and Bettle Tattler on American Horror Story: Freak Show, conjoined twins with very distinct personalities. While their two personalities are starting to converge more as the season comes to a close, Paulson said that she has a part of both of them in her.

"It's almost I feel like a mother being asked to choose who her favorite child is and it's impossible to answer," she told Entertainment Tonight when asked which character she is more drawn to. "I think I love playing Bette because she is so far from me -- that kind of vulnerably open person. I'm not trying to say I'm a hard nut like Dot, but I think I am more guarded although I think the truest part of my soul is more Bette. Over the years you kind of learn to protect yourself from the ways of the world that can be sometimes hurtful."

She observed that she loves how Dot and Bette are essentially "shadow-selves" in how they see the world. While Bette is a hopeless romantic in many ways, Dot is very cynical and untrusting of people.

"We all have both Bette and Dot in us, I think."

Bette and Dot have come close to being split up (literally) on several occasions through American Horror Story: Freak Show, but they have stuck together through it all, putting their bond before anyone who's tried to come along and split them up.

It remains to be seen if that bond will continue in the final two episodes of Freak Show.

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
