Fresh off her DGA Award nomination from the Directors Guild of America, Jodie Foster is revealing what appeals to her about Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.

Foster was nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for a Comedy Series for directing the season 2 premiere of Orange Is the New Black, titled Thirsty Bird. As all episodes of Orange Is the New Black do, the episode blurred the lines between comedy and drama, which appeals to Foster greatly.

"As a director, dramedy is what I do," Foster told Deadline in a new report. "It's not who I am as an actor. The genre requires a very specific skill in terms of recognizing what is quirky and perverse, and to be moved by it. The female prisoners on Orange Is The New Black have a very spiritual journey that's so complex. They're all soul-searching and they change through each other."

Foster has found great success as a director for television, having also worked on Netflix's other big show, House of Cards. The actress/director scored another nomination for directing an episode of House of Cards, making her the only director to be nominated in both Drama and Comedy categories at the DGAs.

She also received an Emmy nomination for directing Orange Is the New Black back in the summer of 2014, having directed the episode Lesbian Request Denied. The episode memorably featured the backstory of Sophia (Laverne Cox).

Foster admitted that she really did not see the Emmy nomination coming.

"I was shocked and confused. I don't know anything about the Emmy nominations. All I knew was - they were happening."

It remains to be seen if Foster is directing any season 3 episodes of Orange Is the New Black, but she could receive even more acclaim if she does.

Orange Is the New Black is slated to return for season 3 in mid-2015 on Netflix, though the streaming service has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
