Speaking to BBC News, writer Brendan McCarthy shared his passion for the Mad Max series and how he went from becoming a fan to finally writing for the third movie with director George Miller. Although, McCarthy was pretty tight-lipped about spoilers, he did give away one weighty bit of information about the plot.

"The Five Wives are the nub of the story. It is around their fate the entire adventure revolves," he said.

The writer also compared the visual scope of the movie to John Ford's Western The Searchers.

"It is basically a huge chase movie," McCarthy said. "George has spoken of it in essence, being 'figures in motion in a landscape'."

The first look at Mad Max: Fury Road, which stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, was revealed via Entertainment Weekly's July cover last year, the dark and gritty semblance of a ravaged place is effectively captured. The story gave away some more information about the sequel to the original (1980).

Miller stated that the movie will feature very little CGI with 80% of the reel capturing naturally executed stunts. But also stated that he was working on creating, "not just a physical experience, but an intense emotional one."

In the cover story interview with Entertainment Weekly Hardy added that the seven month shoot in the hot desert, which was completely dead and parched, was both taxing and rewarding.

"It was mental in a brilliant way," Hardy said. "You have no concrete, no coffee shops. We were in the middle of a sandpit."

Mad Max: Fury Road will hit theaters on May 15 2015.
