It's no surprise that Downton Abbey is one of the most popular shows on television right now and this is something that one of the producers apparently didn't see coming.

Is 'Downton Abbey' Coming To An End After The Sixth Season?

On Thursday, Digital Spy posted details from executive producer Gareth Neame who dished on the series winning a 2015 National Television Award.

"We're in 250 territories worldwide, it is a hit around the world, we're in the fifth series and I think this is the third time we've won at the NTAs," he said. "We designed the show for a British audience first and foremost- it's a British show. We didn't know it was going to be so big worldwide. So to be voted for again a third time for the fifth season by such a large number of British numbers is really what it's all about."

'Downton' Creator Dishes On Keeping Things 'Interesting'

The producer was then asked if any guest stars will be making an appearance into the sixth season.

"Wait and see," he said. "Soon. Soon."

Considering that he didn't say no, this might strike a little anticipation. But he didn't say yes either so anything can happen at this point.

The series has been renewed for a sixth season, but it's a mystery if there will be a seventh season or not. Considering that creator Julian Fellowes is supposed to be working on a new series called The Gilded Age, there's a good chance that he may not have time for Downton in the future.

Downton Abbey airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
