It looks like Penny Dreadful might just be staging its big season finale at a carnival this year.

Why Vanessa Ives Might Be Forced Into Hiding On 'Penny Dreadful'

During season 1 the Showtime series went deep into the workings of a Victorian theatre, one that was later revisited for the season finale. On Monday producer Christopher King shared a photo on Twitter of the "gorgeous" carnival set they were filming this week.

Crew Dishes On Mysterious 'Penny Dreadful' Character

Could this be the setting of a final showdown? Will it happen in public amongst innocent people? This would certainly make for one of the show's more complicated scenes, with plenty of extras and plenty of action. The set could, in contrast, give way to a well deserved moment of levity following an epic tragedy or hardship. King didn't say much about filming at the location, though that could be because it has yet to take lace.

Regardless of its context, the set will likely be explored in vivid detail. Creator John Logan seems incredibly detail oriented when it comes to bringing this world to life, from the characters themselves to the contents of Victor Frankenstein's (Harry Treadaway) dark and ominous lab.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
