'Grey's Anatomy' Showrunner Dishes On Relationships For The Rest Of Season 11

Drew has been on the ABC medical drama since 2009 and her latest storyline tugs at heartstrings.

In an interview with TV Guide that published Wednesday, Drew opened up about her character's baby situation.

'Grey's Anatomy' Actress Jerrika Hinton Teases Her Character's Storyline For The Rest Of Season 11

"At first April is in a bit of denial about the whole scenario," Drew shared.

April has time and time again showed great control, but Drew said she would be losing that control.

"And then she kind of has to face the music and it becomes a really emotional and intense time," Drew revealed.

Drew revealed she's responsible for this storyline.

"I kind of accidentally pitched it," she dished, adding, "On a previous episode last season Catherine Avery [Debbie Allen] has a conversation with April about pro-choice and pro-life. My parents are pro-life and they had offered a not so black-and-white reaction to that scenario that came in the form of this story of their friends.

"When I found out my character was pregnant I said, 'Oh, you're totally gonna do that story that happened to my mom's friend, right?'"

The showrunner Shonda Rhimes agreed to go that route.

Drew touched on Dr. Jackson Avery's [Jesse Williams] mindset about this entire ordeal.

"For the medical-minded Jackson, this scenario seems pretty clear of what should happen," she shared, but for her own character "it is much more unclear."

Drew believes this storyline is "really thought-provoking."

Grey's Anatomy airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
