Hannibal's Fredrick Chilton will have a whole new perspective when season 3 debuts.

Dr. Chilton (Raul Esparza) figured out Hannibal's (Bryan Fuller) disturbing habit long before many members of the FBI, but all his theories earned him was a bullet in the face. Esparza will be on the revenge path when he finally recovers from his near death experience. And who wouldn't be?

"I think the more that happens to Chilton, the darker he gets," Esparza told HorrorHound Magazine (via Will Graham Official). "And certainly his sense of humor rises up because he thinks he's better than everybody. I feel like the season taught him a lesson. And he's coming back with revenge on his mind. But he's not a fighter."

Chilton may have underestimated Dr. Lecter's intellectual prowess in the past, but it is a mistake he certainly won't make again. Instead, Chilton will channel the psychologist's devilish mind.

"Hannibal is smarter than him, and he's playing against a monster," Esparza explained. "And that in order to deal with a monster, you have to become one."
