Shayne Dahl Lamas and her husband, Nik Richie, will soon welcome their second child.

However, as Lamas recently revealed, they are doing so in an unconventional manner. After Lamas suffered a devastating miscarriage in early 2014, she and Richie enlisted the help of her father's wife, Shawna Craig.

“Shawna’s not just my stepmother. She’s like a soul sister,” Lamas told Closer Weekly on Wednesday. “She’s an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father.”

Following her miscarriage, Lamas and Richie looked into other ways of welcoming a child, and eventually chose surrogacy. But instead of having a stranger carry their child, Craig offered to help and is now carrying their son.

“I’m ecstatic to be pregnant,” Craig said. “It’s the best thing in the world.”

Craig, who said she's never desired to have children of her own, works at a fertility clinic in Southern California, and empathizes with women who are unable to get pregnant, or carry a child full-term.

Lamas couldn't be more thankful.

“Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son," she said. "I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful.”

Lamas and Richie's second child is due in July.
