Playing both Frank and Jack on Outlander has been a welcome challenge for actor Tobias Menzies.

'Outlander' Is Approaching One 'Strange' & 'Fearless' Finale

In fact, the opportunity to play two roles was precisely what convinced Menzies to join the Starz drama.

During a Twitter Q&A on March 13, the star revealed that "the chance to play two characters" was one of the deciding factors which made him take the role.

Menzies also admitted that Jack Randall is the most interesting character he's ever played, though if given the choice between Jack and Frank's professions he would have to go with the latter's.

All joking aside, production hasn't always been easy for Menzies, Caitriona Balfe (Claire), and Sam Heughan (Jamie).

Executive producer Ron Moore explained to Variety over the weekend that the series "does go to some harrowing places" during the second half of the season.

"I'm proud of the actors and director," added Moore. "I think they were very fearless on the stage and I think it comes through in the show…It's a great finale."

Outlander will return on Starz for the remainder of its first season on Saturday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
