The second design came out in 1974 and feature the Queen a tad older and wearing a real crown.

Then in 1997, the Queen had entered mid-life and was re-designed to represent that. She wore a much larger crown and earrings as well.

The Queen aged thge most in her fourth design where she entered the later part of her life in 2002. In this deisgn there was no need to flatter the Queen as she appeared compeltely aged.

This is the fifth portrait of the queen to be designed during her 63-year reign as Queen. The new design was created by Jody Clark who is the first Royal Mint engraver to be chosen to create a definitive royal coinage portrait in over 100 years. The crown that the queen wears in the new portrait is of different design, more closely resembling an older version of her portrait.
