Mad Max Fury Road better be impressive, it's more expensive that all the previous movies in the franchise combined.

George Miller Reveals Why Mel Gibson Was Dropped From Mad Max: Fury Road  

The money that has gone into making the latest in the franchise is tantamount to the cost of the film adaptations thus far. According to CNN Money the most recent one cost $100 million, which was the turn around of the first movie, and the price tag was under $1 million then. Of course we must account for the time lapse, the first film was made in 1979, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior was made in 1981, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome released in 1985. The Road Warrior cost $2 million and Beyond Thunderdome cost $12.3 million.

In other recent news, Mad Max Fury Road earned an R Rating from the MPAA. The MPAA chose to label it restricted citing "intense sequences of violence throughout, and for disturbing images."

New footage from the film recently premiered at SXSW. Previously, edgy stills and posters for the sequel to the 1979 original were also revealed. One image showed a motorcade of unique metallic black vehicles on a dirt road leaving a trace of clouds of dust behind them. The warriors are propped up no these vehicles, armed and rearing to strike with vengeance. IndieWire revealed the stills featuring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Hardy, who plays the titular character, is seen with a muzzle on, much like his character in Batman. Theron is seen walking by a massive juggernaut of a vehicle in another picture.

Mad Max: Fury Road will hit theaters on May 15 2015.
