Apple's next generation iPod Touch is almost here.

The release date for the new iPod Touch is set to be in late October, according to a report by Slash Gear.

The first announcement for the latest iPod Touch was made during the launch for the highly successful iPhone 5.

Users in Australia are seeing a shipping date on Apple's website for October 29. The New Zealand release date follows shortly on November 2.

The online Apple store for the U.S. has pre-orders available with a release date just listed for October. Some users are seeing their credit cards being charged as the pre-orders are moving to the "preparing for shipment" phase, according to MacRumors.

The new iPod Touch will also debut alongside the latest iPod Nano.

While Japan is set to receive the new iPods next Tuesday, there are "considerably few numbers of the initial shipment" according to the Japanese Apple blog Macotakara.

There's a lot to look forward to for users looking to buy the latest Apple gadgets.

The iPod Nano will have a 16GB storage capacity with a price of $149 and measures in at the thinnest iPod released at just 5.4 mm.

The new iPod Touch has a 4 inch display with 6.1mm thickness and a powerful A5 processor. It will be available in 32GB and 64GB versions for $299 and $399 respectively. Customers will also have a choice between six different colors as well as the ability to upgrade to receive Siri, Apple's voice assistant.

According to the Washington Post, games are "a market that Apple has been steadily siphoning from handheld video game makers Nintendo and Sony."

The focus of the new iPod Touch is for better gaming and picture taking ability. The new camera can shoot in 1080p HD video and has a wrist strap for easier access to take quick shots.
