On Tuesday, it was announced by Chrissy Teigen and Jussie Smollett at Twitter headquarters in Los Angeles that Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford are up for two awards at this year's Billboard Music Awards.

The band is nominated under the Top New Artist category along with fellow Aussie Iggy Azalea, Meghan Trainor, Hozier and Sam Smith.

The band's other nomination is for Top Duo/Group. The other nominees in this category are their British and Irish friends One Direction, Florida Georgia Line, MAGIC! and Maroon 5.

The Billboard Music Awards will take place on May 17 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. They will be broadcast live on ABC from 8-11 p.m. ET.

Due to the band's upcoming tour they will likely not be in attendance since they're scheduled to be in Germany. They have attended this award show before though. Last year they performed their debut single "She Looks So Perfect" after being introduced by a confused Kendall Jenner who almost presented them as "One Direction".

The band thinks it's "EXCITING" that they are up for two awards.
