Now, the series creator Julie Plec has answered some fans' questions via Twitter over the weekend in regard to Dobrev's shocking news and much more.
Dobrev has been the leading lady of the series from day one, taking on the role of Elena and then even portraying a few of her distant relatives over the years.

On Sunday, Plec chatted with fans on social media to give them some peace of mind about how things will end for Dobrev's character, among other things.
One distraught fan made it seem like Plec doesn't care about the soon-to-be end of Elena appearing on the series, but Plec insisted she knows "it's a very big deal" and the cast and crew are "very sad" to lose Dobrev, however, "we're trying to celebrate our last days w Nina who is our friend."
@thevampirednews it's a very big deal. And very sad for us. But we're trying to celebrate our last days w Nina who is our friend.

Another fan asked how Damon (Ian Somerhadler) would go on without Elena since they have been romantically connected for quite a long while now.
"I think you'll find her exit very moving and very respectful of their relationship," Plec dished without sharing any specific details.
@becausedobrev all I can say is wait and watch and see. I think you'll find her exit very moving and very respectful of their relationship. — julieplec (@julieplec) April 12, 2015
Another TVD fan whined about how Plec "destroyed" the series since Elena and Stefan (Paul Wesley) probably won't end up together in the end.
Plec explained that the show has always been about a love triangle. The Damon and Elena half needed exploration.
"It was inevitable," Plec revealed.
@Fina_Ora the show began as a love triangle. The other piece of the love triangle had to be explored. It was inevitable.

Dobrev's departure from the series is definitely going to be a tricky thing to handle in the storylines, but Plec said, "[W]e have a cast, a crew and a writing team who are VERY excited to take on this challenge. I hope we do well."
@Sarah_TVDdelena we have a cast, a crew and a writing team who are VERY excited to take on this challenge. I hope we do well. — julieplec (@julieplec) April 12, 2015
The creator even dished the ending is known already for the series.
@Sarah_TVDdelena if we don't, then we'll still give the show the ending it deserves -- we already know what it is, no matter when it happens

Lastly, she told another fan that the Season 6 finale "made us all cry during the table read" so it's likely tears will fall as viewers watch when it airs.
