Jennifer Love Hewitt and AJ Cook both got pregnant during the course of filming season 10 of Criminal Minds, and this was written into the storyline of the show.

Showrunner Dishes About Jennifer Love Hewitt's Decision To Leave Criminal Minds

Unfortunately, Hewitt, who played Kate Callahan, left in the finale of season 10. The actress wanted to take on the role of a full time mom, so she didn't commit to season 11. This has spurred concerns of AJ Cook, who plays Jennifer Jareau in the CBS procedural, also quitting for the same reason. A new Entertainment Weekly spoiler report is reassuring for fans of the show, revealing that Cook will very much be back for the next chapter, just that she might not be seen in the first few episodes

Showrunner Erica Messer told the publication that it was a good decision to reveal Cook's pregnancy in the finale as it allows them to explain her character's absence in the first couple of espidoes of season 11.

The BAU Will Be Fighing For 'One Of Their Own' In The Finale

"We laid the groundwork for it, and then we can remind everybody in the premiere that she's on maternity leave," she said.

The season finale, titled 'The Hunt,' brought back the criminal, "the creepy, internet stalker guy," the BAU was investigating in the first episode. The BAU put all its force behind rescuing Kate's niece Meg, who is held hostage by him.

The finale of Criminal Minds aired on May 6.
