Activision has announced Skylanders SuperChargers, the latest in the insanely popular toy/videogame mashup series.

The game will feature a new class of heroes called SuperChargers, who come with new moves and weapons, as well as special in-game abilities. However, they won't do it on their own two feet, as they'll also come with land, sea, and air-based vehicles.

20 SuperCharger character toys and 20 vehicle toys will be available, and yes, parents, that sound you just heard was your wallet screaming in terror.

Skylanders SuperCharger Starter Pack has been announced and is now available for pre-order for $74.99 in North America. This includes two new Skylanders characters, a Skylanders vehicle, a newly designed Portal of Power+, and, of course, the game.

"What kid hasn't imagined epic vehicles with amazing powers and dreamed about the adventures they could have with them? Skylanders SuperChargers makes those dreams real," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc.

It's an obvious move for the company- if kids are getting tired collecting the 300+ Skylander figures on the market, why not allow them to place them in vehicles? This is going to be huge, especially since this title is fully compatible with all previous toys.

In-game, players will have the ability to customize all the vehicles with modifications and upgradeable weapons. If you combine a SuperCharger Skylander with its signature vehicle you will create a "SuperCharged combination", unlocking an exclusive mod that revs up the performance of both the vehicle and character.

As far as the story, which is hardly the focus, evil baddie Kaos is once again attempting to rule Skylands, this time by creating a massive "Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction", which can eat the sky itself. We're not sure Kaos thought that one through. Regardless, you will pilot a fleet of vehicles to try and stop him once and for all, or at least until next year's installment is released.

Skylanders SuperChargers will be available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, with a different adventure hitting the original Wii and 3DS, as well as a version for iPad. Expect it to hit on September 20 in North America, September 24 in Australia/New Zealand, and September 25 in Europe.
