11-bit Studios has announced that the mobile tablet version of This War of Mine will be released next month, and has released an interactive trailer to show you just what kinds of things you'll face in the game.

Few (if any) games have ever focused on the civilian impact of war, and none in the way that This War of Mine does. You play a group of survivors trying to survive in an abandoned building. You'll have to contend against starvation and dehydration, against sickness and injuries, and even against other survivors in the city who have become scavengers and formed into gangs. You yourself are no better, however, as each night you'll need to set out to scavenge food, supplies, and weapons from nearby buildings. There you'll have to decide how you want to survive--do you want to abandon your humanity, robbing and killing for your own survival?

It's a bleak game and your characters will feel it, as they can sink into depression and even take their own lives if things get bad.

So yeah, Candy Crush this is not. It is, however, a singular and important game, and the mobile version will no doubt put it front of a much bigger audience.

The desktop version of This War of Mine is a tremendous game, and this author can attest that it's as powerful an experience as it seems to be. It also works really well with a touch screen. I tested it out on a Windows 8 tablet and found that it was even easier to control with the touch screen than the mouse, and was obviously designed with a mobile audience in mind.

iOS and Android tablet owners will be able to find out for themselves in July. You can check out the interactive trailer on warisnotachoice.com or via the embed below.
