As fans await the highly anticipated sixth season premiere of ABC’s Rookie Blue, they also wait to hear if it will be the show’s last.

Future Of ‘Rookie Blue’ Still ‘Up In The Air’ Ahead Of Sixth Season

And frankly it’s still a question even for show runners and executives. The TV Junkies caught up with Shaw Media’s SVP and chief creative officer Christine Shipton recently. She spoke on the current status on whether the show will have a future.

“We’re working hard on it, but I can’t say it’s been picked up. There’s a lot of factors, a lot of discussion. I love the show personally. I would be so proud if we could take a hit Canadian show to seven seasons. It’s a pretty small list of shows that reached that seven season mark. So it’s not official but we’re working on it.”

She went on to say that all hope isn’t lost and they’re still in talks of the international series moving forward.

“At this point it’s conversations with eOne, in terms of finance and what the timing would be if there was a seventh season. There are all those factors -- you’ve got to make sure all that’s aligned before you push the button.”

As for the sixth season, it will definitely be one full of drama that might leave fans with many questions if the show is taken off the air.

For starters, Marlo’s pregnancy seems to be taking center stage as Sam works on co-parenting amid his relationship with Andy. Interestingly enough, Dov gets close to Marlo during this time. On top of that, Nick has moved on with another woman, Juliet, whose intentions are still in question. Chris isn’t quite out of the water when it comes to his troubled lifestyle as he starts dating a married woman he met in AA.

Rookie Blue premieres Thursday, June 25 at 10/9c on ABC.
