Famed board game studio Days of Wonder has just announced that their hit game Splendor will be getting a video game adaptation on iOS, Android and Steam in a collaboration with Space Cowboys a relatively unknown developer behind Backyard Shootn, Gallop Stars, and the upcoming Relentless.

The original board game of Splendor is already a hit, with over 200,000 copies sold worldwide, but this new version of course has the potential to reach many more millions of players.

An addictive multiplayer strategy turned-based card game that sees players assuming the role of wealthy Renaissance merchants in order to exploit mines and caravans, hire craftsmen, and leverage their influence with the nobility, Splendor has been much acclaimed , winning the 2014 Golden Geek "Board Game and Family Game of the Year" award from Board Game Geek, the Best Board Game 2014 from the UK Game Expo, and nominations for the German Spiel des Jahres and the French As d’Or.

The digital version will be crafted in 3D and deliver "an impressive realistic renaissance atmosphere", according to Days of Wonder.

This is a real opportunity for us to help a huge audience discover or rediscover the game!" says Yann Corno, CTO of Days of Wonder. He added: "Splendor really deserves a digital adaptation! It is a fascinating and rich game, and players can now play anywhere, anytime, regardless of their mobile platform."

The digital adaptation of Splendor will be available this summer on IOS, Android and Steam.
