Nicole Westbrook Viral Thanksgiving Song, The Next Rebecca Black?
Twelve-year-old Nicole Westbrook is shocked by the amount of attention her Thanksgiving Day song has received after it was posted on Youtube.
Her music video video for "It's Thanksgiving" was posted online on Nov. 7 and already has over 5 million hits. The middle-school student from Lake Balboa, Calif., is more than flattered that her song has garnered this much attention so quickly.
"I had no idea how big this would get," Westbrook told ABCNews.com. "It's so overwhelming but at the same time it's so great. I've never experienced this before. I haven't listened to any of the comments, so I don't know how exactly people are taking this, but it's so big right now so it's great."
ABC noted that Westbrook is the latest musical protege from producer Patrice Wilson with PMW Live. Wilson is also responsible for the viral hit "Friday" by Rebecca Black, which received more than 42 million hits and garnered much criticism.
However, Westbrook said that she will not focus on any criticism regarding her song and any comparisons made to Black and her hit "Friday."
"Patrice had told me it was so hard for her [Black] because she gave into all the negative feedback," she said. "I'm just not like that. I'm staying as far away from that as I can. I'm at a good age and know what I should and shouldn't read. They're entitled to their own opinions."
"I feel like people view us as being really similar, but I'm probably a lot different than her in many ways," Westbrook added, about comparisons made between her and Black. "It's not the best thing to be compared to someone else, but I'm OK with it. I don't really mind. But she is really great and she went through the same things as I do."
In the video, Westbrook starts off by counting down the days until Thanksgiving arrives, and all the other holidays that pass throughout the year. Then she starts cooking for the big day while singing about turkey and mashed potatoes. Westbrook also raps in part of the video while sitting down for a meal with her friends.
Lyrics of the song include "December was Christmas, January was New Years, April was Easter and the Fourth of July....Oh oh oh it's Thanksgiving, we,we,we are gonna have a good time."
