The 19-year-old daughter of international rock star Jon Bon Jovi was arrested early Wednesday morning after overdosing on heroin in her dorm room.

A volunteer ambulance squad was called to a dorm at Hamilton College in upstate New York when it was reported a young woman was unresponsive after possibly overdosing on heroin. The volunteer staff was already on site by the time police arrived.

After a small amount of heroin was found on the scene, two students were arrested. One of them was Stephanie Rose Bongiovi (who shares the real last name of her famous father, who was born John Bongiovi), and the second student was a male named Ian S. Grant. Both students are from Red Bank, New Jersey.

Hamilton College released a statement about the incident and explained that administration officials are working with police on the continuing investigation.

"On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, members of the Kirkland Police Department arrested two Hamilton College students. One was charged with possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree, and the second was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree and possession of drug paraphernalia," the statement said. "All are misdemeanors. In addition to violating state law, the actions alleged to have been committed by the students violate Hamilton College policy. The college is cooperating with the police investigation."

Bongiovi was formally charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Both charges are misdemeanors, and Bongiovi was released from jail and ordered to return to court at a later date.

Bongiovi is Jon Bon Jovi's only daughter and the oldest of his children with his wife, Dorothea Hurley.
