Wittrock, who played petulant man-child Dandy Mott in American Horror Story: Freak Show, spoke with The Wrap recently about the challenges and highlights of working on the series.

He also revealed which of his many co-stars deserved to win an Emmy for their work in Freak Show.

"There's a lot of talent all over the cast, but I think Sarah Paulson's challenge was greater than anybody's, having to be two people at once (the conjoined Bette and Dot)," Wittrock said. "It's a very hard, laborious, technical, tedious process ... and she was a real pro throughout all of it. It literally takes three times as long to film those scenes than any other scenes, and to be able to do that and maintain two separate characters is pretty extraordinary."

Both Wittrock and Paulson are on the long-list for Emmy voters, who are currently making their selections. Paulson is predicted to be nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, at least by awards prognosticators Gold Derby. Wittrock's odds aren't as high in the Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category, but his memorable performance could land him a nomination. However, he may suffer from lack of name recognition.

Meanwhile, Wittrock and Paulson are both returning for American Horror Story: Hotel, the show's fifth season.

American Horror Story: Hotel is set to premiere in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
