A shooting that occured at a funeral on Monday has one person dead while the other remains in critical condition.

Gunfire reportedly broke out at the St. Columbanus Church off of East 71st Street in Chicago as a service for the late James Holman came to an end.

Sherman Miller, 21, was shot dead in the melee while Deonte Ousley, 26, was rushed to the hospital to undergo surgery. Holman had been gunned down and killed a week earlier at 60th and Michigan.

According to MSN, Mary Sistrunk, the mother of the late Miller, stated that she'd already lost another son in a similar fashion roughly four years prior and said that she tried telling Miller to "let go of those people and get with God."

Police said that both of the individuals targeted are "convicted felons and had a gang affiliation." The two victims were alleged members of the Gangster Disciples aka GDS and sources said of the 470 homicide victims recorded in Chicago for 2012, half are members of the GDs. Additionally, 60 percent of the city's murders are reported to be gang-related.

April Smith, an eyewitness, said that she saw a man approach the church from 72nd and Prairie. Upon entering, he allegedly began shooting and Smith reported that she'd heard a minimum of 10 shots before seeing the suspect run out, drop the firearm and take off.

"This has to stop. If it's happening at funerals, it's going to continue to happen," she said.

Pastor Corey Brooks, who is considering a run at former Rep. Jesse Jackson's congressional seat in the 2nd district, took to Twitter to speak about the tragedy.

"Please pray I believe people have been hit it is Chaos about 500 people here. This is Crazy!! Two people shot and it appears that one is dead and one critical. Please pray for Chicago. This is Horrible!!"

The police weren't able to confirm Brooks' description of the crime scene.
