After some speculation and Christine Baranski hinting at Oliver Platt's return for season 7 of The Good Wife, a recent piece of news has made the actor's return official.

The Americans Star Joining Cast For Season 7

TV Fanatic report announced that Peter Gallagher will be joining the cast of season 7 of The Good Wife as a new attorney. The actor will be playing the part of Irving Carter, a witty and sophisticated attorney for conservative billionaire Reese Dipple (Platt)" in the next chapter. This means Dipple is definitely coming back and Diane (Christine Baranski) will have more reason to spar.

In an interview with Vulture, Baranski revealed that her favorite episode in the CBS legal drama was the one in which her character spars with R.D., played by guest star Platt. "My favorite episode that I ever did on The Good Wife was with Oliver Platt, and it was the wedding cake, the gay-marriage episode," she said.

The Good Wife Renewed For Two More Seasons?

In keeping with the mood of the event at which Vulture caught up with Baranski, the subject of the documentary Best of Enemies -- a documentary on the debates between William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal, tied in with the actress wanting to see Platt back on the show.

"I would have liked to have done more intellectual arguments, à la Buckley and Vidal, with Ollie Platt," Baranski said. "Because a lot of that episode was batting around the conservative and liberal opinion, and it was so fun to do, and it was so well written. It's such a strength of the writing of Good Wife. They really take up contemporary issues and argue deeply and intelligently about [them]. And I love that Diane was just in her element, going toe to toe with this Republican guy with a lot of money and considerable charm and brains. And I thought it was a great combination."

Eventually the actress hinted at Platt's return. "Maybe he'll come back for some guest stuff," she said.

In fact even the showrunner Robert King has previously expressed his disappointment at not being able to have had Platt on the show for longer. It seems like this time they might push for him to stay on for a longer character arc if they get him on board for season 7.

The next chapter of the legal drama is set to premiere on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m.

The season 6 finale, entitled 'Wanna Partner?' aired on CBS on May 10.
