Angela Bassett will be playing a true diva in FX's American Horror Story: Hotel.

'American Horror Story' Boss Hyping Up Lady Gaga's Performance Has Us Beyond Excited

Bassett is set to play Ramona Royale, an actress living in Los Angeles. She described her character in a new interview with TVGuide.com, heaping many compliments upon her.

"I'm this very over-the-top, dramatic, fabulous, gorgeous, sexy, strong, powerful actress Ramona Royale, living here in LA in her mansion so she's done pretty well for herself," Bassett described. "But she's always trying to improve her game and stretch herself as an actress to be taken seriously."

Will Jessica Lange Consider Returning To 'American Horror Story' After This Season?

While Ramona is trying to expand as an actress, "she won't sink to belittling herself or just doing anything for the part, which she's always asked to do by unscrupulous producers because she's so sexy and gorgeous, with all this phenomenal hair."

Bassett said that her character has similar hair to one famous musical icon.

"Just think Diana Ross in her heyday with her hair just blowing in the wind. The look is real fresh," she said.

Additional details have already been announced regarding Ramona, including that she will have had a relationship with hotel owner Elizabeth, played by Lady Gaga. Just how intense that relationship was (or is) remains to be seen.

This is Bassett's third role on American Horror Story. She joined the show for Coven where she played voodoo priestess Marie Laveau and returned for Freak Show as Desiree Dupree, a woman with three breasts.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
