The roller coaster ride experience is about to get even more thrilling in unexpected ways this summer, with Six Flags and Cedar Fair amusement parks both planning to roll out new Virtual Reality Experiences with their roller coasters.
According to the Los Angeles Times, more than two dozen rides equipped with virtual reality technology and VR headsets are expected to debut this summer on a variety of different ride experiences, with Six Flags leading the charge by adding the experience to nine different coasters at several of their parks.
Among the rides getting a VR experience will be SUPERMAN: The Ride at Six Flags New England in Massachusetts, SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America in Maryland, SUPERMAN: Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, 1976 Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas, Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia, Ninja at Six Flags Over St. Louis, Steamin' Demon at Six Flags Great Escape in N.Y., and Goliath at La Ronde in Canada.
Cedar Fair Amusements is also expected to add VR headsets to two coasters this year, at Thunder Run in Canada's Wonderland outside of Ontario, as well as on at least one other coaster in one of their other 11 parks.
The VR experience is meant to synchronize the motion of the coaster to the virtual world of nonstop action. The experience is meant to synchronize the steep drops of coasters, the airtime, and the G-forces with the visuals in the headsets for a fully-immersed experience.
