With the release of two official trailer and recent interviews with cast members we now have a pretty good idea about Independence Day: Resurgence, here's all you need to know to stay up to date.

The latest trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence was unveiled at the Super Bowl on the night of February 7.

The clip is quite thrilling and is set to a grand, slow-paced rendition of the national anthem, set against visuals of skyscrapers falling and the American patch of earth completely sinking under, vulnerble to the antagonistic forces. The trailer is quite moving in its blockbuster realm.

The first trailer for the movie was revealed in December last year. The clip shows Jeff Goldblum's character David Levinson being brought back to assess the threat as he is taken to the settlement of alien forces that are preparing for war on America.

Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are set to reprise their roles, but Will Smith will be missing from this one. In fact it has been reported that Smith's character, Steve Hiller, will be killed off in Resurgence. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Smith recently responded to the fact, and admitted that he was left quite sad by it. New cast member, Jessie Usher is set to play the part of Hiller's son in the film.

In a recent interview with SlashFilm, Pullman also dished about his character, former President Whitmore. "I'm living in a suburb in Virginia outside of [Washington] DC, living a quiet life," he said. "My daughter [Maika Monroe] has the exciting things going on now. She used to live in the White House to me, but she is now working for... the big woman."

Another exciting new cast member attached to the sequel is Liam Hemsworth, who will be playing the part of Jake Morrison, a U.S. pilot who served in the ESD.

Speaking to SlashFilm, Hemsworth also revealed some details about his character.

"[Jake's] parents were killed in the first attack," he said. "So he grew up in an orphanage, joined the military, became a fighter pilot and ended up in the best of the best fighter pilots and makes a bad decision and ends up being demoted to the moon where he drives what is essentially the same as a forklift."

The movie also stars Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner.

Here's the official synopsis for the movie:

"We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

Independence Day: Resurgence will hit theaters on June 24, 2016, with the independence day just around the corner.
