With the return of the fifth installment in the Bourne series, the question about where Jason Bourne has been all this while is on everybody's mind.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the film's director Paul Greengrass spoke about returning to the franchise and what fan can expect from Jason Bourne.

"He's been in the shadows of Europe," Greengrass said.

Additionally Greengrass assures fans that Bourne was not on holiday.

"He's been active and he's been doing hard physical work," Greengrass added. "Definitely not sunning himself on the beach."

Greengrass went on to talk about his decision to get back to the series and make another Bourne movie.

"You don't make a movie unless you're 1000 percent committed to make the best movie we can, and you don't make this kind of movie unless you think it can be a worthy successor to the other movies we made," Greengrass said. "That phenomenal Jason Bourne shape was a segment of intent."

The director also lauded Matt Damon's commitment to the series, and preparedness as an actor, as he got into the role from the get go.

"It gave all of us the most immense shock, because you think 'Oh my god. This is weird. This is Jason Bourne, and he's back," shares Greengrass. "That's sort of exciting."

In other recent news, Damon dished about how they decided on the title for the film.

In an interview with Empire, the actor revealed that they were initially planning on going with the usual "The Bourne [Something]" for the title, but the complexity of the character at this stage had them change their minds.

"We talked about calling it The Bourne Something," Damon said, "but I think the idea was to separate this film from the others, because so much time has passed since we did one. Ours are really about identity, and the guy's search for identity, and at the end of the third one, he says 'I'm no longer Jason Bourne'. So without giving too much away, the new one starts with the implications of that: okay, then who is he? What is this identity that's just sitting out there unclaimed? What does it mean? I think the title will make more sense when you see the movie, but it felt right because it felt pertinent to the story we were telling and also different from the others--in the right way. A decade has passed..."

Jason Bourne will release on July 29, 2016.
