Dr. Okun (Brent Spiner), who was presumed dead in the original Independence Day, is back in Resurgence, the latest TV commercial for the movie reveals.

The new trailer for the movie shows Okun back in full force and also causes reason for alarm as the aliens are seen prematurely celebrating the invasion of earth.

Speaking of old characters returning to the franchise, two of the main ones, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are notable.

The latest still which was released as part of the USA Today summer preview, shows Goldblum as David Levinson and Pullman as former President Thomas J. Whitmore, looking on at something ominous, perhaps the annihilistic approach of the aliens.

Last month, in an interview with SlashFilm, Pullman and Sela Ward talked about working on Independence Day: Resurgence and revealed a bit about their characters.

Pullman revealed that his character, former President Whitmore, will be leaving a peaceful life away from all the political drama in the country.

"I'm living in a suburb in Virginia outside of [Washington] DC, living a quiet life," he said. "My daughter [Maika Monroe] has the exciting things going on now. She used to live in the White House to me, but she is now working for... the big woman."

The president this time around will be a woman, President Lanford played by Ward. But Ward revealed that unlike Whitmore, who was very actively involved in the fight against the aliens, Lanford won't play an equally dominant role, even though she will continue to work on the Earth Space Defense program. Ward also spoke about how things will be different this time around taking into account major world developments like climate change and 9/11 and how that will influence the situation.

"It's a very different climate presidentially. It's all about defense and building up and the neglect of money towards other things in the country," Ward said. "People are weary, people have been living in fear for a very long time, not unlike today, having our own violent, traumatic event with 9/11 and everything going on in the world. So you have the same kind of climate, and in terms of her storyline, it's totally different, because the circumstances are different. We're prepared. We think we are. We hope we are. We're not caught by surprise in that respect. A different time."

Independence Day: Resurgence will hit theaters on June 24, 2016, with actual Independence Day just around the corner.
