Love her or hate her, there's no denying that Mariah Carey knows how to give respect where respect is due.

There's a new report that says the international chart topper chose not to perform a Prince cover as a tribute at a Paris concert simply out of respect for the singer, who passed away last week.

According to Entertainment Tonight over the weekend, Carey said that she didn't sing a cover song because Prince himself never liked cover versions of his greatest hits. She did though take a moment to honor the "Purple Rain" hit maker during her concert at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris.

She said, "So it's a very sad day but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured. He was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times I really, really needed somebody and he was an incredible person if you didn't ever get to meet him and I'm sure his music touched every single person in here."

Carey then added, "So, let's have a moment of silence for Prince if we could please."

The singer later revealed that she had a hard time trying to figure out a good way to pay tribute to Prince in a way that he would have wanted.

She explained, "I thought that 'One Sweet Day' was an appropriate tribute for him. One thing about him (Prince) that was kinda cool and funny and made me laugh is that he didn't like when people did his songs... otherwise I would have done something of his, just to do it, but I knew that wasn't his thing."
