Since Microsoft acquired popular calendar app Sunrise last year, the tech giant has made it known that it is planning to integrate the well-loved independent calendar to its mainstream Outlook app for Apple's iOS devices. Now, Microsoft has given an official date for the complete merge, with the fateful date set on August 31.

What's more, the tech giant also announced that Sunrise would be officially removed from Apple's App Store within the next few days. By August, the service would completely cease to exist. Addressing its wide user base, the Sunrise team, which is now working for Microsoft's Outlook app, released a message.

"As heartbreaking as this sounds, we're hard at work bringing the magic of Sunrise to the Outlook apps. The entire Sunrise team is now working side-by-side with the Outlook team and it's a thrilling moment for us to work on an app of this scale," the Sunrise team stated.

Designed by former Foursquare engineers, Sunrise has become one of the most popular calendar apps since its was released years ago. Combining a very smooth interface with numerous notable features, such as the integration of social media updates to the calendar itself, Sunrise was quickly considered as among the industry's best.

Soon, the calendar app caught the eye of tech juggernaut Microsoft, which eventually acquired the app in February 2015. The developers of Sunrise allegedly walked away with a pretty generous payout too, with the deal rumored to be worth about $100.

With the acquisition, Microsoft assigned the Sunrise team to work with its very own Outlook developers. During the last few months, a number of notable Sunrise features started making its way to Outlook, with Microsoft's massive calendar app introducing support for Facebook, Evernote and Wunderlist. Touch ID support was added on March, too.

Microsoft has announced a number of notable iOS updates that are set to be introduced too, such as Skype for Business and OneNote integration.

Microsoft Outlook is currently available for free on both the iPhone and the iPad App Store.
