Resident Evil is arguably the franchise which brought the survival horror genre in games to its current prominence. Indeed, since the days of the first game on the first PlayStation back in the 90's, Resident Evil practically became the household name for survival horror games. Now, to commemorate the prestige of the franchise, Capcom has initiated a series of remakes of Resident Evil games, starting with the original back in 2015.

This year, three Resident Evil titles are set to be released. Interestingly, the remakes of the popular games are scheduled to be re-released in reverse chronological order, starting with Resident Evil 6's remake last April and Resident Evil 5 this coming June. According to Capcom, the remake of RE5 would be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 28.

Just like the remake of RE6, the Resident Evil 5 remake is expected to run at 1080p resolution and will play at a far higher framerate than its original version, which was launched for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. What is particularly interesting about the RE5 remake is the fact that it would come bundled with all previously-released add-ons.

In fact, even No Mercy mode, which was originally launched as a PC exclusive, would be available for all platforms. Mercenaries Unlimited, a new mode specifically developed for the Resident Evil 5 remake, would also be included.

Though much about the game's release has been revealed and confirmed by Capcom, rumors about the upcoming title are still emerging, with the latest being that the RE5 remake would be shipping with Lost in Nightmares, a prequel DLC for the game. Even the mid-game Jill Valentine quest, Desperate Escape, is also rumored to be included in the Resident Evil 5 set.

Resident Evil 5 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One would be priced at $19.99. The game would be released both as a physical disc and as downloadable content through the Xbox and PlayStation store.

After the release of Resident Evil 5 on June 28, fans of the franchise should get ready for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake, which is expected to be released later this year.
