Though rumors about the Xbox One Slim have not been confirmed by Microsoft, the tech giant's most recent decisions about the current iteration of the Xbox One seem to indicate that the manufacturer is clearing house. Indeed, Microsoft just announced yet another price cut for its console, with the 512GB model now retailing for only $299, a fraction of its original price.

The 1TB variant of the Xbox One has also been discounted to just $319 per unit. Even Xbox One bundles are getting a massive discount, with each purchase automatically getting a $50 price cut. While these discounts are indeed exciting, what is even more interesting is the possible reasons behind the price cuts being initiated now.

Of course, among the most prominent possibilities is that Microsoft is preparing to clear out its Xbox One inventory as much as possible to make way for the release of an updated console this coming month, the rumored Xbox One Slim. Though there has been no confirmation about the device as of writing, many are speculating that the Xbox One Slim would at least be able to stand toe-to-toe with Sony's upcoming update to the PlayStation 4, the PS4 Neo, which is believed to be scheduled for release this year.

What's more interesting, however, is that other rumors are emerging that Microsoft will be unveiling the actual successor to the Xbox One, the rumored Xbox Two or Xbox Scorpio, next year. If Microsoft does indeed to this, there is a possibility that the tech giant might end up killing the sales of its Xbox One Slim console, since the device would be made obsolete only a year after its release.

Then again, speculations have also emerged that Microsoft would be creating the Xbox One Slim as a more Cortana-driven media device, rather than a full-fledged game console. Thus, even if Microsoft does release the Xbox Scorpio next year, the Xbox One Slim would still serve a very useful purpose.

Indeed, many fans have been stating that Microsoft would probably become more competitive against Sony's console if it releases multiple iterations of its gaming console. Thus, the Xbox One Slim could be the tech giant's entry-level, affordable console, while the rumored Scorpio could be its flagship unit.

Of course, these speculations could only be confirmed or debunked when Microsoft actually takes the stage on E3 2016, which is set to begin on June 14.
